Government to Immediately Form Tax Investigation Team. The government said a special team to investigate lower tax revenue from mining sector will be formed soon report issued earlier this month that indicates dramatic fall on tax revenues.

Coordinating Minister for the Economy Hatta Radjasa said after a cabinet meeting today (20/5) at the State Palace that he would be directing the team to investigate the sharp decrease of tax revenue. “(A) team will be immediately formed which will include elements from non governmental organisations beside from the government.”

As of may 7th this year, tax collection from mining is recorded at Rp8.8 trillion almost 30 percent lower from Rp12.4 trillion collected in the same period last year. Traced back to 2008, tax collection from the sector had been decreasing since.

“We have to find out why (the revenue) down. Was it due to lower sales or rising cost production.” the team he said will have the authority to collect data from the Taxation Directorate General, companies, and regional administration to find out where the leakage are and why.
